Program of Studies Extension 2009.2010


ELECTIVES
Cooking 6-8
Students will be exposed to proper culinary techniques that follow good food health and safety when preparing, cooking, and serving food. Students participate in all components of selecting a healthy menu, budgeting, shopping, preparing, and serving the meals.

Art/ Modeling 6-8
In this course, students will have the opportunity to create and build models using a variety of tools and resources such as; clay, wood, and recycled materials, in order to explore their creativity and individual interests. Students will also be given the opportunity to learn strategies in order to complete multi-step modeling projects such as; origami, model kits, electronic designs, and 3-dimmensional prototypes.

Music 6-8
In this course, students will participate in a basic understanding and instruction of the core elements involved with music theory. Students are exposed to numerous genres of music, basic tempo, reading of single notes, and lyrics. Students also experiment with different musical instruments such as; keyboards, guitars, percussion, etc.

Team Sports 6-8
Integrated into this elective are skills and fundamental drills of basketball, flag football, and kickball. Rules and regulations, peer interactions, and sportsmanship are some key factors to the elective.

Games Group 6-8
Integrated into this elective is the building and sustaining of social pragmatics skills (turn taking, sportsmanship, reciprocity, etc.) in the course of age-appropriate game activities such as; card games, board games, electronic games and computers, and role playing.
