Referral Process

Initial contact is from the special education administrator of the referring school district. The initial contact is followed by a referral packet sent to the Collaborative location where the appropriate program is housed. A referral packet should include, but is not limited to:

Student's current IEP
Student's most recent 3-year re-evaluation
Any student records pertinent to the proposed placement (i.e. medical, behavioral, psychological, educational etc.)

Students and parents/guardians will be invited for an interview and tour of the proposed program. MSEC administrative staff may also request an opportunity to visit the student in his/her current placement, and provide an opportunity for the student to spend some time in the proposed program prior to making an acceptance determination.

Once the process is complete, the program manager will provide a written letter to the school district and parent/guardian, or student if he/she is his/her own legal guardian regarding acceptance.
