Program of Studies

MATH
Foundations of Math (Fundamental)
The course is designated for those students who struggle with the basic concepts of Pre-Algebra. These students are instructed on life skills math abilities and preparation for real world applications.

Pre-Algebra
The course is designated for those students who may require a refresher course before advancing to Algebra I. Topics covered, aligned to the Massachusetts State Frameworks, are, but not limited to, decimals, fractions, percents, single variable equations, and exponents. The students will also be presented with materials in preparation for the math track sequential course, Algebra I.

Algebra I
This course will expose students to the basic concepts of Algebra including basic operations, equations, and inequalities, graphing and related vocabulary. Students will utilize text and related workbook exercises. All course content has been modified after the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks.

Integrated Math
The course is an integrated model of the three courses above and is designed to aid those students who may not have retained information from the previous year and require a lengthy review and more structured instruction within the classroom. More manipulatives and real life adaptations are utilized in the instruction of this course. Emphasis is also aimed at the standards addressed by the MCAS mathematics exam.

Geometry
The course will provide an introduction to Geometry including segment measure, angle measures, triangle inequalities, polygons and area, and application of similar triangles. Students utilize text and hands on manipulatives to reinforce the content. The content of this course has been modified after the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks.

Algebra II
Each chapter/unit contains problems focusing on specific skills, such as evaluating, problem solving, and word application problems. Supplementary assignments are added by the teacher who modifies assessment tools including specific projects and games. These are meant to foster growth, not to replace standard quizzes and tests.
Such specific topics to be included in this course are
Linear Equalities/Inequalities Exponential Equations Polynomials Factoring Trinomials Quadratic Equation Rational Expressions Square Roots/Radicals/Complex Numbers Quadratic Formula Relations/Functions/and Slope Circle, Ellipse, Parabola, and Hyperbola Logarithms/Antilogarithms

Trigonometry
The course is designed to focus on the concepts of Trigonometry. Trigonometry and its applications can be taught in sections of Geometry, Algebra II, and in Pre-Calculus according to the Massachusetts State Frameworks. This course is designed to focus on Trigonometry as a whole. Each unit will identify the sub-topic area, strands, and standards that are met in the lessons. This course should be taken after Geometry and Algebra II are mastered. This course is usually for Seniors (12th grade). Trigonometry only focuses on several topics in Pre-Calculus. Therefore, this course is not labeled such.
