The collaborative curriculum is in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Currently MSEC is using Reading Mastery Plus, Connecting Math Concepts, Language for Learning, Language for Thinking, Language for Writing, Ed Mark Reading Program, and Unique Learning Systems as curriculum materials. These materials are supplemented by additional teaching materials and manipulatives.

Autism / PDD Classroom Curriculum

Grades: Pre K- 8
MSEC follows and adheres to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for all students and individual modifications are made for each as necessary. The following is an outline of topics to be covered in grades Pre K- 8. Skills are taught using Direct Instruction, ABA methodologies, small group and individual instruction. Monthly and weekly thematic units are utilized to organize the presentation and teaching of the curriculum.
ELA (English Language Arts) and Communication
Students will develop ELA and Communication skills through
Readiness Skills (this may include: eye contact, following directions, attending, waiting, raising hand, commenting
Receptive and expressive communication and vocabulary (this may include: Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), sign language, gestures, written language, verbal language, vocalizations, etc…)

Reading skills (decoding/ encoding)
Spelling
Comprehension skills
Wh- questions
Pre writing/ handwriting
Typing
Mathematics
Students will develop Mathematic skills through
